D4: Daggerheart's Deadly Demonic Descent

Synopsis

For the longest time, the mortal world and the underworld lived in harmony, each in separate planes of existence. But 53 years ago, a conclave of powerful mages called the Advanced Guard sought to harness the magical power of the underworld to foster technological advancement of modern societies. They tried to tap into the Absolute Zero, the very core of the underworld which made it an evercold and everdark place. Their attempt was a catastrophic failure, leading to a chain reaction causing the Zero to supernova into becoming a source of light and heat, now referred to by the demons as the Scorcher. This event is nowadays called the Upheaval. Within the span of a few months, this led to a rapid mass extinction of all the organisms in the underworld demons were feeding upon, and their world soon became inhospitable. Back to the wall, these beings of great magical prowess fled their home world en masse to seek refuge in the mortal world. Driven by a mix of hunger and profound hatred for the entities who destroyed their home, demons are now preying upon mortals to devour them one by one, in an all-out war that mortals are rapidly losing.

Safety tools and atmosphere at the table

While this game will have horrific themes, we want to make sure everyone at the table feels safe and comfortable. We will use the Lines & Veils safety tool before we start playing, and anyone should feel free to speak up while we play if something doesn't sit well with them and they want to skip a scene or remove a problematic aspect from the game. Sexual content (described or mentioned), as well as harassment of any kind towards other players, will not be allowed at the table. Be kind to each other.

The game

Game mechanics will be explained at the start of the session for beginners if needed. You will play Level 1 characters. If you want to play a specific class, please do contact me beforehand or bring your own pre-filled character sheet, as I will otherwise hand out pre-gen characters for the sake of time efficiency.
